Import Scribeless templates from Figma
Use the Scribeless Figma importer to bring a selected Figma frame into Scribeless as a template. The importer can carry across layout, images, text, fonts, standard Scribeless variables, QR placeholders, and handwriting layers.
Install the plugin from the Figma Community: Scribeless Importer.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
Access to the Scribeless team where the template should be created.
A Scribeless API key for that team.
A Figma frame that matches the product, size, orientation, and page you want to create in Scribeless.
Any variables, QR placeholders, or handwriting layers named before import.
If you need an API key, open Scribeless, go to your settings, create a new API key, and copy it.
Import a Figma frame
Open the Figma file and select the frame you want to import.
Open the Scribeless Importer plugin.
Paste your Scribeless API key.
Enter a template name.
Choose the product, orientation, and page that match your design.
Select Create Template.
The importer uploads images and other assets while the template is being created. Keep the plugin open until the upload finishes.
When the import is complete, select Open template in Scribeless.
Open the template in Scribeless and check the result before you use it in a campaign. Figma and Scribeless do not render every design feature in exactly the same way, so you may need to make small adjustments after import.
Use variables
The Variables tab in the plugin shows the standard Scribeless variables you can use in a template, such as {{firstName}}, {{lastName}}, {{company}}, {{postalCode}}, and {{custom1}}.
Copy variables from the plugin and paste the exact copied text into your Figma text layer. Scribeless will replace those variables with recipient or campaign data when the template is used.
Add QR codes
To create a QR code placeholder, name a Figma layer QR, QR code, or qrcode. The layer can be a vector, shape, frame, or grouped QR design.
The importer converts that layer into a Scribeless QR code element with the same position and size. After import, open the template in Scribeless and set the destination URL.
Add handwriting layers
To convert a Figma text layer into Scribeless handwriting, rename the layer using:
handwriting/<family>
For example:
handwriting/stafford
Supported handwriting families are carpenter, foster, george, grogan, knowles, nightingale, robinson, singh, and stafford.
The importer uses the text content and position from Figma. Black Figma text imports as black handwriting; other text colors import as dark blue handwriting.
What to review after import
Review the imported template in Scribeless before using it in a live campaign. Check:
The product, size, orientation, and page are correct.
Images and uploaded assets appear in the right place.
Text sizes, line breaks, and spacing still look right.
Variables use the exact Scribeless variable names you expected.
QR codes have the right destination URL.
Handwriting layers use the right style, color, and placement.
Some Figma layers may be simplified into a single composite image when they cannot be recreated as separate Scribeless elements. Layer names are still used where possible, but the imported result may not match Figma exactly.
Troubleshooting
If the plugin cannot connect to Scribeless, create a fresh API key in Scribeless settings and paste it into the plugin again.
If a variable does not replace correctly, copy it again from the Variables tab and make sure the Figma text layer uses the exact value, including the curly braces.
If a QR code imports as a normal image or shape, rename the layer to QR, QR code, or qrcode and import again.
If handwriting imports as normal text, rename the text layer using handwriting/<family> and make sure the family name is one of the supported options.
If the imported design does not look right, adjust it in Scribeless before using it in a campaign.
