Creating a folded card template

Learn how to build a folded card template in Scribeless - from choosing your size to designing each panel and publishing.

Updated this week

Folded cards are a premium format that opens like a greetings card, giving you multiple panels to design: a front cover, two inside panels, and a back. You can mix handwriting, images, text, and QR codes across each panel to create a fully personalized piece.

Creating your template

  1. Log in to your Scribeless dashboard

  2. Navigate to Templates and click Create New Template

  3. Select Folded card as your product

  4. Choose your size from the dropdown:

    1. A5 folded card – UK & Europe

    2. A6 folded card – UK & Europe

    3. 5×7 folded card – US, Canada & International

    4. 4×6 folded card – US, Canada & International

  5. Give your template a name and click Create template

Understanding the panels

Once inside the editor, you'll see a panel thumbnail in the top-left corner showing which section you're currently designing. Use the arrow buttons on either side of the canvas to navigate between panels:

Panel

What it's for

Front

The cover of the card - ideal for a bold image or design

Inside Left

Left half of the inside spread

Inside Right

Right half of the inside spread - a common place for the main message

Inside Top

Top section of the inside — great for a QR code or logo

Inside Bottom

Bottom section of the inside — where handwriting typically sits

Back

Reverse of the card — good for your website, return address, or

branding

Designing each panel

When you're on a panel and ready to add content, click Add block or New block to open the block chooser. You can pick from:

  1. Container – a layout wrapper to organise multiple elements

  2. Text – printed text, ideal for URLs, addresses, or static content

  3. Handwriting – the personalized handwritten message

  4. Image – upload your own or browse the Design Library

  5. QR Code – a scannable code linked to any URL

You can also open the Design Library to choose from pre-made design blocks for the front cover.

Adding a handwritten message

The handwriting block is what makes your card feel personal. Here's how to set it up:

  1. Navigate to Inside Bottom (or whichever panel you want the message on)

  2. Click Add block and select Handwriting

  3. Click into the block and type your message

  4. Use the Variables selector to insert personalization fields or any custom fields from your campaign CSV

  5. Adjust the handwriting style, size, alignment, and ink colour in the right-hand panel

Designing a front cover

  1. Navigate to the Front panel

  2. Click Add block and select Image, or click Design Library to browse pre-made landscape designs

  3. Resize and position your image to fill the canvas

  4. Add any additional text or branding blocks as needed

Publishing your template

Once you're happy with all your panels, click Publish changes in the top-right corner. You'll see a confirmation message — Version published successfully — when it's live. Your template will now be available to select when setting up a campaign.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I leave some panels blank?

Yes — you don't need to add content to every panel. Many customers only design the front, inside message area, and back.

What's the difference between the Inside Top, Bottom, Left, and Right panels?

These are the four quadrants of the inside of the card when it's folded open. Folded cards in portrait orientation typically use Inside Top and Bottom; landscape cards use Inside Left and Right. You can add content to any combination.

Can I use the Design Library for the inside panels too?

Yes — the Design Library is available on any panel. However, it's most commonly used for the front cover.

Can I use a different handwriting style on the same card?

Each handwriting block has its own style settings, so technically yes — though we'd recommend keeping it consistent for a natural look.

Once I publish, can I make changes?

Yes. You can return to the template editor at any time, make edits, and click Publish changes again to update it.
